The wastewater flow regulator

The Wastewater Flow Regulator is an automated flow control device designed to retrofit into inverts from 100mm to 225mm diameter.

PRODUCT OVERVIEW

First introduced in 2018, the British designed, multi-award winning, and GB Patented (2574173) Wastewater Flow Regulator, also known as the Sewer Flow Regulator (SFR) for short, is a cost effective, retrofit, automated flow control device aimed at converting new or existing gravity sewers to become part of a smart sewer network.

Strategically installed in a sewer, Sewer Flow Regulators can help reduce incidents of sewer flooding and/or the activation of CSO overflows by throttling back and/or clipping peak flows under the control of real-time level sensors, network telemetry or smart catchment models.

The solar operability and versatility of the Sewer Flow Regulator design has already been instrumental in its adoption by several wastewater utilities, where it has helped to deliver significant time, financial and carbon savings when compared to penstock and/or civil engineering solutions.

MOUNTING OPTIONS

The Sewer Flow Regulator is available with two mounting options.  One for mounting at the inlet of a chamber and the other mid-chamber.

When mounted on the inlet, the regulator is supplied with a fixed body which mounts over the invert and tight up against the chamber wall.  This body typically includes an overflow pipe which is adjusted to prevent spills.  The regulator slides into two guides at the bodies outlet.  The blade of the regulator is driven up and down in relation to the invert, to either cut-off the flow completely or leave a residual defined pass forward flow.

The mid chamber version of the regulator is supplied complete with a retrofit weir wall and mounting frame that spans the chamber.  Again this has two guides into which the regulator fits and from which it can be removed for service.

The weir walls are modular in design enabling one of several meters height to be supplied yet pass through the existing 50cm access cover.

Mid chamber mounted regulators are ideal for diverting flows to storage tanks.

KEY FEATURES & BENEFITS

With over four decades experience in the wastewater industry, our team appreciate that every sewer chamber, from its invert profile, benching, to flow gradient and spill point are different.

For this reason, we offer every client a 100% bespoke design service with every Sewer Flow Regulator order under the full quality assurance of our ISO9001:2015 system.  The objective where possible being to eliminate the need for civil works, thereby reducing cost and overall carbon footprint of the project.  The scope of this design service can extend to the provision of remote telemetry and smart sensor controls.
