A key part of this capability is RDN’s patented sewer and wastewater flow regulator, designed to optimise the movement and retention of flows within the network. Rather than allowing systems to simply surcharge and spill when capacity is challenged, the regulator can be used to manage flows more effectively, helping utilities and asset owners make better use of available storage and reduce unnecessary discharge events. Importantly, these devices are engineered for practical deployment: they can be solar powered, installed under live flow conditions without the need for costly bypass pumping and can be retrofitted through existing access covers—often as small as 500mm—minimising disruption, time on site, and overall installation cost. The technology has been in operational use since 2018, with a growing track record of successful deployments.

This philosophy of practical intervention extends to project economics. In many cases, the cost of deploying intelligent control solutions such as RDN’s flow regulators is significantly lower than traditional civil engineering works, offering a highly cost-effective alternative to network upsizing, storage expansion, or major infrastructure upgrades.
