The Radio Data Networks RDNET1000 Flood Pole, is an affordable means of generating flood warnings around the perimeter of industrial sites, pleasure and caravan parks and other sites subject to the threat of flooding.
Highly affordable, based upon Radio Data Networks award winning and industry proven solid-state BDT technology which has over a decade of service history, including detecting floods for railways and utilities, flood poles are normally strategically positioned around the perimeter of a site in the low-lying areas to detect the onset of flood incident at the first point of entry.
Each flood pole is battery powered and uses radio telemetry for reliable communications without the need of a SIM card, or radio licence card. Installation is fast and easy, not requiring mains power, cables, ducts, or trenches. This makes the flood pole suitable for permanent, temporary, or emergency deployments.
Battery life is typically 20-years, and the electronics assembly within each pole is sealed in resin to greater than IP69K standard permitting the entire pole to withstand compete submersion to a depth of greater than 3m.
Using radio telemetry has a significant advantage as each flood pole can communicate directly to a central warning station with full autonomy. They can also talk simultaneously to emergency beacons, flood warning sirens, and/or text communicators. The benefits of using radio telemetry go much further than being free to use, as each pole broadcasts regular health message every 10-seconds that contains each poles status, and a unique one in 4-billion electronics serial numbers so that each pole can be identified.
Flood Warning System Pole – Flood Warning System
The status message is not just its simple status, dry or submerged, but also includes unique condition value generated by its integrated BDT sensor. However, unlike cellular or IoT such as Lora if they were to do the same, the battery life expectancy would be minimal, whereas the Flood Pole is 20-years.
Where flooding can come from drainage or culverts, flood poles can be used in conjunction with other Radio Data Networks flood detection devices such as wireless BDTs drain and sewer flooding alarms, which unlike float switches cannot get stuck, entangled, or frozen in winter, or damaged by ice as it has no moving parts or sensitive diaphragms.
Finally for the science – in operation the BDT within each flood pole proactively monitors its surrounding and using a capacitive technique looking for a change in its surroundings bulk dielectric constant to see if it is in air or submerged in water. On-board DSP (digital signal processing) converts the reading into a unique quality code appended with one of over 4-billion addresses which is broadcast as part of the regular heath message.
